Quick update. I've made some more progress. I thought I had not been able to get the phone into DFU mode. I tried it a few more times (the steps of how to get it into DFU mode) and finally its restoring. My phone is staying on with the Plug into iTunes screen. will update once it is done restoring and installing the firmware.
edit: blevins just to be safe I took the sim out and made sure it was seated properly. thank you for the reply
edit2: it says the iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unkown error occurred (1604)
If it's in DFU mode, there should be nothing on the screen. It's in recovery mode, not DFU. 1604 is a common problem when restoring in non-DFU mode.

I'm a great fan of Ruby myself. Check out MacRuby (http://www.macruby.org/) which runs directly on top of the Objective-C runtime, not via a bridge. Check out Aimonetti, Mark (2011?) MacRuby : the definitive guide, O'Reilly (http://oreilly.com/catalog/0636920000723/). It's still in early release, due for final release in July.

Really depends on what kind of a graphics freak you are. My kids are playing on HD2600 iMacs and are still enjoying the experience. I think you should be fine if you are happy with running a game at medium detail in 2 years time. Most will still probably run on high with some tweaking.

If it is indeed a dead pixel, which it looks to be, Apple most likely will not replace it, considering that only one out of 1,049,088 pixels on the screen is a dud.

If you copy by burning a dvd along with the itunes library data couldn't you just drop it into the itunes folder? Otherwise if you just transfer the music folders it seems you'd lose all your changed info.....comments, genre etc. I for one would really hate do redo the info on thousands of songs.
Marlene
That's true that you would lose any info that isn't stored inside the music file itself (i.e. in the ID3 tag of an MP3) - I prefer to have iTunes open and drag the info to iTunes so it finds it and imports it immediately. Using your method, I'd have to do the copy while iTunes is closed, then open iTunes and hope it sees the new music library.

The "right" amount is a bit subjective. WinXP requires 1.5GB of space, but you'll also need room for additional hardware drivers, room for temporary space/virtual memory, and room for games. You'll need to consider how much space your games will need. On my 500GB HDD, I partitioned off 100GB. It's not nearly enough for all the games in my library, but it allows me to have several of them installed while running Win 7.
However, I don't think there's a right answer that anyone other than you can provide. Also, read the Bootcamp message and make sure it supports WinXP. I know the 2011 MBPs do not.

Hmmm, seems I may have read it wrong, I mistook "partition" as meaning another partition on your main HDD/SSD and glanced over the "external" and "internal" points. Yeah, been a long day, and being blond ain't helping lol

I think buying an Imac will be one of the best purchases you could ever make. Certainly one that will never forget, once you go mac you will never go back.

My brother lost his original iPhone 4 last week, and the insurance replaced it.
I just bought a white iPhone (even though I have a black one & hate white). The reason is due to its greatly improved new antenna. The white is thicker due to the improved antenna.
When compared to the brand new black one my brother got, the white is far better. The difference is so dramatic, nothings been changed on the Antennagate black phone. That's a total shame.
I was shocked, yet happy I could finally buy an iPhone 4 I'm happy with. One that has a good useable phone that doesn't drop calls or break up.
My black Speck Pixel Skin case fits good since it was a bit loose on my black one.
I'm so relieved and happy to have a great iPhone now.
this proves nothing other than build quality varies between phones. it's been shown over and over: the added thickness is not due to an antenna change, but a thicker plastic bezel around the screen, probably for light bleed.
the most they would have done this late in the game is add a clear coating to the exterior antenna band to prevent 'capacitive' shorting across antenna sections, or improve the build quality. nothing to do with how thick the phone is.

No, but you could do a block copy restore of the install DVD to a small partition on either its drive, or an external HD connected to that machine.
If the 2nd machine is an Intel Mac, its drive will be partitioned using a GUID map. PPC Macs can't boot to a drive using that map - it must be APM. So, if the preceding is true, you will need an external drive partitioned using APM (in the Disk Utility "Partition" tab, click on "Options..." to set the map type).
To make the bootable copy on your other machine's HD (or external drive), run Disk Utility and create a small (10GB should be enough) partition formatted Mac OS Extended (also making sure to set APM as the partition map type). Then, use Restore to copy the DVD to that new partition, making sure to check "erase destination" (which enables block copy).
Start up your other (2nd) Mac using FireWire Target Disk mode (hold down 'T' at startup). Now, when you startup the iMac G4, hold down the 'option', then select the partition you cloned the DVD to on your other machine. You should be able to startup on it, and during install, select the iMac's HD as the install target.
Hope that's not too confusing - I mixed "other" and "2nd" when describing your not-iMac-with-working-DVD machine. The bottom line is to access a bootable partition on that machine that you can boot off of using that machine in Target Disk Mode, connected to the iMac via FireWire.
Or, find an external FireWire DVD drive for the iMac. :)
Wouldn't another option be to use the DVD drive from the 2nd mac in target disk mode, even if the 2nd mac is Intel?

30'' would suck... the resolution just wouldnt be there. Just for example: Samsung makes a 30'' LCD TV that can be used as a computer monitor, but its max resolution is 1024x768. A 30'' with good resolution would cost a frickin fortune... 10 thousand or more

Your MBP is definitely a pillow. pillow: anything used to cushion the head. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/pillow
It's definitely not a cushion. cushion: a soft bag of cloth, leather, or rubber, filled with feathers, air, foam rubber, etc., on which to sit, kneel, or lie. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/cushion
Ergo, a MBP is not a pillow.

Yes--no sign of Final Cut Pro having been altered. Why remove a nice feature of the bundle?
Sountrack is still mentioned in the Final Cut Pro info at Apple.com--and in fact, Soundtrack itself still has its own page at Apple. It's just the store that no longer lists it. So by itself it seems to be gone, but it lives on with Final Cut.
Maybe the next Final Cut will just come with a video-enabled GarageBand variation?

oh my god, superdirve and bluetooth?
who ever thought of that as a rumor for the upcoming powerbook:p
macworld had a thing on bluetooth being the future for the next generation macs and there must be dozens of posters here calling for a superdrive in a powerbook
these things probably all need to happen before we see either a dual G4 powerbook or, later on, a G5 powerbook
i don't want to wait til late-2003 or early-2004 to get bluetooth and superdrive as a new thing when the G5 powerbook most likely will be announced, if they even call the post-g4 laptop that

you could always do what I did and buy a cheap off-contract phone that requires the data plan, then wait it out to see what the iPhone 5 adds to the table.
I bought a Palm Pixi Plus for $60 off of Newegg, it got me the unlimited data plan, plus they threw in a complimentary 5GB tethering option as well since that was also included with the Pixi Plus, due to the mobile hotspot feature, when they actually still carried the phone. They couldn't answer for sure when I asked if the tethering would transfer if I upgraded down the line, but they assured me the unlimited data would. Also, by getting the off contract phone it left my previous upgrades (I've still got 2 accrued since I haven't used an upgrade in 4 years) intact for use on the iPhone 5, or other phone if I so choose.
